"Lord Have Mercy" contemporary figurative painting

I stare at the television after the hurricane.  Lord have mercy, my heart is breaking.

There was a city, a real city, Catholic, Caribbean, tropical, multi-racial, French, festive, exotic, artistic.  It was crumbling, old and beautiful.  It was everything my life in rural Mississippi wasn't.  For me, there may be no more jazz.  Now when I remember New Orleans, there is only the hurt and the sadness.  There is only the emptiness and the Delta Blues.
