The Father of the Bride

Once upon a time 
there was a princess 
from Long Island.
And her daddy drove 
the Wonder Bread Truck.

While he delivered bread,
at 3 am,
he stopped 
to feed
the cats
that lived
behind the dumpsters
behind the grocery stores
of Jamaica Queens,
Long Island.

After he retired,
he called people
to feed them.
Or at times
go out himself,
such as times
when no one else could,
such as times
when it was cold,
or times 
such as midnight
Christmas Eve,
let's say.
Now I wonder
just where
my princess
gets it from?
