"Lethe the River of Forgetting" mosaic art. concrete and vitreous glass on fieldstone. 16 in x 21 in.
"Lethe the River of Forgetting" contemporary figurative mosaicLethe is the River of Forgetting in Greek mythology. If I remember correctly, the souls of the dead were content to remain in the land of the dead until they drank from the River Lethe and thus forgot all the troubles of life. Then they clambered toward the light eager to be reborn. Charon was the ferryman who carried the souls of the dead across the River Styx into the land of the dead. The moth was the symbol of the soul released at the time of death.
