"My Green-Eyed Bride" Contemporary Mosaic Art

When an artist looks at his work, often he can only see the failures and the compromises.  When I look at this mosaic, I see that it is interesting and warm in spite of its shortcomings, but what I really see is a need to move on.  Specifically, I look at the cheek and the violets pinned to the dress and think about how much I like these elements of the work, and how much I enjoyed making them.  They are done more in a loose "painterly" style.  This is the direction my mosaics are moving.  I have recently completed another mosaic in a more "impressionistic" style.  It is also a portrait of a woman with a landscape background.  I'm very excited by this other mosaic.
